Module 4 — City Performance Indicators and Methods of Assessment
Lesson 6 of 13
Greenhouse Gas Emissions Accounting

Greenhouse gas emissions accounting is a mathematical approach to quantifying emissions based on the activities within cities. In this video, an overview of the basic principles of GHG inventories is presented, followed by applications of these inventory methodologies to a few cities for demonstration. Throughout this process, you’ll be introduced to several of these inventory approaches.

An inventory of greenhouse gas emissions gives a reliable picture of the energy consumption of the residents of a city, and the resource intensity of the activities within the city. Knowledge of the cities’ population, land area, economy, energy mix, industries, transportation modes, environmental regulations, and climate policies, if any, greatly enhances the understanding of their respective inventories.
