Module 3 — Principles of Sustainable Urban Design
Lesson 7 of 14
Netzstadt by Franz Oswald & Peter Baccini

Franz Oswald and Peter Baccini’s urban design theory that is presented here is based on their book Netzstadt: Designing the Urban, which has been written as a textbook of a transdisciplinary nature. In this video you learn a little bit about both authors’ educational background and research work, which influences their urban design hypothesis, and we will uncover what the Netzstadt is and how it is used for redesigning contemporary cities.

In a blend of two disciplines, architecture and the natural and engineering sciences, the Netzstadt is presented as a model that is guided by design principles and checks against criteria of urban quality, and is presented as a method that demonstrates how transdisciplinary tools can be used in the long process of reconstructing the city.
