Module 3 — Principles of Sustainable Urban Design
Lesson 5 of 14
Social Theory by Jane Jacobs

Jane Jacobs' urban design theory that is presented here is based on her book The Death and Life of Great American Cities.  In this video, you’ll find out more about Jane Jacobs as a person, and on the social theories on which her new principles for urban design are based upon, and which critique traditional design concepts.

In a series of ideas about designing cities for the comfort of people, and for human interaction, the social theory for urban design emerges, where Jane Jacobs points out some conditions for diversity in the city, as forces of regeneration, and characteristics of thriving cities that optimize the use of sidewalks, parks and neighbourhoods.
