Module 3 — Principles of Sustainable Urban Design
Lesson 4 of 14
Good City Form by Kevin Lynch

Kevin Lynch’s urban design theory that is presented here is based on his book Good City Form. In this video you’ll get to know a little about the theorist and more about the theory, in terms of its context, and the elements of Lynch’s urban design which he refers to as dimensions of performance.

Good city form as proposed by Kevin Lynch is an urban design theory based on the connection between human values and the physical city, and therefore his theory connects statements about how a city works with statements about its goodness. We now have a definition of what is a good city form, and we can use it to guide decisions about urban policy allocation of resources, where to move, or how to build something, using the norms about good and bad.
