Module 2 — Concepts of Sustainable Cities and Communities
Lesson 5 of 12
Climate Change in Cities

Cities make significant contributions to greenhouse gas emissions, and as such activities in cities contribute to climate change, among many other impacts.  In this video we analyze how and why emissions differ among cities, with a closer look at some of the cities’ characteristics and energy consumption that determine the greenhouse gas emissions attributable to them.

To analyze the greenhouse gas emissions in cities, we covered some of the geophysical factors and technical factors that determine the greenhouse gas emissions attributable to ten cities. An understanding of what is behind these greenhouse gas emissions numbers gives as a good idea of the nature of energy consuming activities in cities, and shed light on the potential opportunities to greening these activities.
