Module 2 — Concepts of Sustainable Cities and Communities
Lesson 6 of 12
Towards Green Growth

Green growth supports sustainable development by moving towards decarbonizing urban infrastructure while maintaining a healthy economic growth. In this video, an overview of key terms is presented, followed by an analysis of the growth in urban sectors, and the implications for greenhouse gas emissions, in addition to highlighting the innovations that are taking place to reduce emissions.

An evolving green economy is envisaged where the growth of infrastructure does not necessarily mean that emissions are increasing. In fact, green growth across several sectors presented here show that growth that is associated with a reduction in GHG emissions is possible, as evidenced by those that are leading in decoupling economic growth from resource consumption and environmental impacts in buildings, transportation, power and industry sectors.
